NHS pilots brain tumour test reported to cut diagnosis to two hours

BBC and Guardian coverage describes a substantial reduction in diagnostic waiting time.

A rapid brain tumour test being used by the NHS can reportedly reduce diagnosis from up to eight weeks to two hours. The Guardian says NHS England is piloting it in five centres and that testing can take place while patients are on the operating table.

What holds up

  • ✓BBC and Guardian accounts both report the reduction from weeks to hours.
  • ✓Both outlets describe NHS use, with the Guardian specifying a five-centre pilot.

What doesn't yet

  • ?The summaries provide no accuracy statistics, study size or comparison of tumour types.
  • ?Faster diagnosis is not itself evidence of improved survival.

Ask before you share

  • →How accurate is the test across different brain tumours?
  • →Which patients can access it, and what clinical outcomes are being measured?
